San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister reminded property owners April 7 that the second installment of their 2007-08 taxes will become delinquent if not paid by April 10.
McAllister’s department has set up a tax tent to take care of the thousands of property owners who wait until the last days to make their payments. The tent at the County Administration Building, 1600 Pacific Highway, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 8 and 9, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 10.
The official deadline is actually midnight April 11, and payers can drop the payment at any Tax Collection site or file online by that time, although McAllister’s advice is to pay early online , at www.sdtreastax.com , because sometimes the site gets overloaded.
Nearly 967,000 tax bills were mailed to owners in October, the tax collector said. Delinquencies have increased 20 percent compared with the same time last year, with 70,000 delinquent reminder notices mailed out to taxpayers who failed to pay the first installment on time.
Other sites that will accept payments are at 590 Third Ave. in Chula Vista, 200 S. Magnolia in El Cajon, 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in Kearny Mesa and 141 E. Carmel St. in San Marcos.
