Everything’s coming up roses for one San Diego online florist.
Proflowers.com, a San Diego-based flower dealer, announced it had its biggest day ever as people went online for Mother’s Day gifts.
Sales at Proflowers.com were up 500 percent over Mother’s Day last year, and the site averaged more than 30,000 hits per hour. That was more than the company’s busiest week of Valentine’s Day, said Bill Strauss, chief executive officer of Proflowers.com.
What’s more, the company achieved its first-ever $1 million sales day May 10, he said.
“The increased number of visitors to our site indicates that more and more people are interested in buying quality, fresh-cut flowers at competitive prices online,” Strauss said. “Customers understand the value of receiving flowers direct from the grower.”
In all, Proflowers.com shipped about 125,000 flower orders for Mother’s Day , a 50 percent increase over Valentine’s Day. At times, the site was processing an order once every three seconds, he said.
Part of the company’s success comes from its merger with Miami-based Flowerfarm.com in December. Since then, Proflowers.com has been able to offer fresh-from-the-grower flowers in 19 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.
