The Port of San Diego approved funding for 10 new environmental projects, the agency said Oct. 10.
Among the 10 projects are installing solar panels and using other sustainable building materials at the new cruise ship terminal planned for the Broadway Pier. Funding for this project, being done with SDG & E;, is $500,000 over two years.
Some of the green elements that will be part of the cruise ship terminal are low flow toilets, energy efficient lighting, and electric charging stations for electric cars.
Other environmental projects the port district funded include research on the California spiny lobster with $90,000; enhancing fish habitat of San Diego Bay at several sites in Chula Vista and Coronado with $30,000 in funding; restoration of a salt marsh at J Street with $19,000; and installing solar panels on the roof of the port administration building for $19,000.
