Philippine Airlines Mulls San Diego Route

Philippine Airlines, the national airline of the Philippines, also known as PAL, announced its intentions this week to add San Diego to its U.S. routes within the next year.

Jamie Bautista, PAL president and chief executive officer, said that the airline is looking at opportunities to add other cities to its routes in the United States.

In addition to San Diego, the company is considering adding Seattle to its destinations. The San Diego flight would connect through Vancouver, British Columbia, while the Seattle flight would be direct from Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

PAL flies to five U.S. and U.S. territorial destinations , Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Guam and Honolulu. Flights to Los Angeles were recently increased to 10 times weekly from nine, while San Francisco also saw an additional flight, to bring its total to nine.

Last year, PAL began flying directly to Beijing three times a week. It also flies to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Taipei, Vietnam and Middle Eastern routes. Among the airline’s 43 destinations, 18 are within the United States and 25 are international. It recorded 6.8 million passengers last year, up 3.6 percent from the prior year.
