Padilla Named to Coastal Panel

Chula Vista Mayor Stephen C. Padilla has been named to the California Coastal Commission.

Padilla, 38, replaces San Diego City Councilman Scott Peters, who resigned this year. State Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez named Padilla to the commission.

A former two-term council member, Padilla brings more than a decade of land-use policy experience to the commission, according to Nunez.

The Coastal Commission is a big factor for projects along San Diego’s coast, including a proposed desalinization plant in Carlsbad.

Padilla serves on the board of directors and executive committee of the San Diego Association of Governments, and is a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Earlier, Padilla served on Chula Vista’s Board of Ethics, the Safety Commission and the 2000 Community Task Force.
