This year’s matchup for the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl promises to be one of the best ever with the University of Oregon (10-1) from the Pacific-10 Conference playing the University of Oklahoma (7-4) from the Big 12 Conference. The Dec. 29 game will be played at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Oregon Ducks had been hoping to get an invite to one of the Bowl Championship Series games, but accepted a bid to the 28th annual Holiday Bowl after the BCS passed the school over. This is Oregon’s second appearance in the game.
Oklahoma, a perennial football powerhouse, is making its first appearance in the Holiday Bowl, but has played in seven straight bowl games under coach Bob Stoops.
“This is the most exciting matchup we have ever had,” said Stephen Cushman, the president of the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.
A week before the Holiday Bowl, Qualcomm Stadium is the site for the first Poinsettia Bowl, featuring Colorado State University from the Mountain West Conference against the U.S. Naval Academy. The presence of Navy has boosted ticket sales in the initial bowl game to about 40,000 as of last week, organizers said.
