Ahoy! San Diego-based Silicon Space is developing a long-distance learning program for military officers at sea.
The company, which is teaming with the U.S. Navy and USD on the project, is developing a master’s in science degree program in global leadership for Navy and Marine Corps officers in the Pacific Fleet.
Silicon Space, an E-business professional services firm, will use its Web-based learning tool, Lotus LearningSpace Anytime, for the project.
Silicon Space will work with USD’s Academic Computing and School of Business Administration staff to develop and support the Lotus LearningSpace infrastructure on campus.
“Our main goal is to contribute to the university’s excellent reputation in the San Diego higher education community while conquering the economic and geographic barriers military officers face throughout their careers,” said Curt Nelson, principal of Silicon Space.
Silicon Space has implemented more than 200 successful Intranet and Extranet applications for companies such as Hewlett-Packard Co., 20th Century Fox, Union Bank of California and Toyota Motor Marketing Europe.
