A new option in daily, one-stop airline service to Japan begins June 1 from Lindbergh Field, the San Diego Unified Port District has announced.
Northwest Airlines will inaugurate a 9:45 a.m. flight from San Diego to Los Angeles, connecting with an 11:35 a.m. departure to Osaka and a 1:15 p.m. departure to Tokyo.
Other airlines serving San Diego offer flights to those cities via Los Angeles or San Francisco.
From Northwest’s Tokyo Narita hub, passengers may continue to destinations including Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, China; Manila, Philippines; Singapore; Bangkok, Thailand; Seoul, South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; Guam and Saipan. From Osaka’s Kansai International Airport, Northwest provides connections to Manila; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Northwest also will begin daily, nonstop service to its hub in Memphis, Tenn., on June 1.
Meanwhile, at Lindbergh Field’s Terminal 1, Southwest Airlines recently added daily, nonstop flights to Austin, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo. A Port District statement noted Austin is among the top five high-tech communities in the nation.
