Northrop Grumman Gives $125,000 to San Diego Futures Foundation

San Diego Futures Foundation received $125,000 from Northrop Grumman Corp. This is part of a $500,000 gift to be made in 2007. “We are committed to SDFF as a program that supports our mission and vision to enrich education and culture and improve human services,” said Carol Schmitt, an executive with Northrop Grumman’s information technology sector.

More than 100 San Diego County Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club associates painted curbs, removed trash and replanted native vegetation at Torrey Pines State Reserve beach and lagoon April 21. In addition to volunteer efforts, county Wal-Mart stores donated $1,600 to the state facility as part of the 10th annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup project coordinated by the California Parks Foundation.

STAR/PAL’s seventh annual Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting youth programs was held late last month at Balboa Park Club. San Diego National Bank was the presenting sponsor; STAR sponsor was Lisa Ballard; superhero sponsors were San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Outback Steakhouse and Intero Real Estate. The event raised $95,000.

Casa de Amparo held its 11th annual Meet the Chefs of Del Mar on April 22 at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar. Fourteen local chefs participated in the event that raised $100,000 for Casa de Amparo, which provides prevention and treatment programs, education and counseling for children in a safe, nurturing environment.

R.E. Snow Construction Co. was the presenting sponsor of Morning Glory Brunch at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Organic Garden Center. Other sponsors included San Diego Las Hermanas, Fletcher Hills Printing and Post Haste. The $60,000 raised benefits the garden center at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.

The Center for Community Solutions received $30,000 from the University of San Diego Lambda Chi Alpha chapter. “We chose to donate the funds to CCS because of their commitment to creating safe and healthy local communities,” said Ryan Jetton, USD president of Lambda Chi Alpha. The funds will assist CCS in providing sexual assault prevention and intervention services.

The Star of India Auxiliary held a benefit to support the Maritime Museum of San Diego on April 28. Holland America Line was the major sponsor; the $27,000 raised will be used to support educational programs, including the program for at-risk children.

The American Lung Association’s 100 Years in San Diego County gala, Evening in the Sky, was held last month at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The event raised $120,000. Major sponsors included MediciNova Inc., Astec Inc., Anheuser-Busch, Barney & Barney, Damico Realty Group, Torrey Pines Bank and Cubic Corp.

The 22nd annual auction and dinner dance at the Bishop’s School was held last month. The event generated $1 million to support the student scholarship and faculty enrichment programs.

Paul and Sally Russo donated more than $35,000 to UC San Diego for the Campaign for UCSD: Imagine What’s Next. Nearly 12,000 parents have contributed to the $1 billion effort to support education and instill a tradition of giving.

The San Dieguito chapter of National Charity League Inc. is scheduled to honor the class of 2007 at Senior Presentation on May 27 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. The event celebrates the accomplishments of class members who complete a six-year program that highlights cultural, educational and philanthropic involvement in San Diego. The NCL San Dieguito chapter presents 20 seniors who have prepared to build a better world through their commitment to service to others.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament raised $195,000 to support patient services and programs at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. Edco and Grossmont Healthcare District were title sponsors, each donating $20,000 to the event.
