Northrop Gets More Whirlybird Work

The Department of Defense announced Dec. 15 that Northrop Grumman Corp.’s San Diego facility has been awarded a $16.2 million contract modification from Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md.

The previously awarded cost-plus-incentive-award-fee contract is for two of Northrop Grumman’s Fire Scout vertical takeoff unmanned vehicles, which are similar to helicopters, including concept of operations support.

Northrop Grumman employs more than 4,000 people locally.

Work on the project will be performed in San Diego and is slated for completion in October 2008.
