William Stensrud is the last of San Diego’s wealthiest residents to be highlighted on this year’s Business Journal top 25 list.
He is worth $100 million and lives in Poway.
Stensrud retired last year from San Diego-based Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. According to published reports, Strensrud left the venture capital firm to pursue entrepreneurial activities.
Founded in 1985, Enterprise Partners has consistently focused on investing in Southern California businesses dealing in technology and life sciences, according to its Web site. Strensrud was with the company for about 10 years.
He also previously served as CEO of another technology-related company, Ensemble Communications Inc., until its abrupt demise in 2004.
Strensrud and his wife, Carol, are known to support education. Among their philanthropic gifts is $5 million given a few years ago to help establish UCSD’s Rady School of Management.
The couple also has previously donated money to the university’s athletics programs and cancer center.
Other benefactors of the Strensrud’s charity include the YMCA of San Diego County, the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Rescue Mission.
