Estimated worth: $150 million
As the chairman of Wireless Facilities, Inc., Masood Tayebi is the San Diego-based firm’s largest shareholder with about 6.7 million shares or nearly 10 percent. That stake was worth about $45 million as of late October.
Along with his brother, Massih, he also is the co-owner of BridgeWest LLC, an investment firm specializing in emerging technology and telecommunications companies.
According to a securities filing, BridgeWest has a portfolio of companies involved in broadband fixed wireless, communications towers, voice portal infrastructure, semiconductor development and a wide range of other investments. The estimated value of BridgeWest’s assets was more than $100 million.
“They have a lot of holdings other than technology, like real estate, finance, and they’re also invested in several venture capital firms,” said a person familiar with the Tayebis.
In October, Wireless Facilities announced it was a co-bidder with search engine juggernaut Google Inc. to provide the city of San Francisco with a free wireless Internet zone.
According to political contribution filings, both Tayebis are heavy contributors to Republican Party candidates, including the President Bush campaign, and that of U.S. Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham.
