“Grading is under way for the third phase at Parkway Business Centre in Poway.
The project is a joint venture of McMillin Commercial of National City and Hillwood Development Co. of Dallas. Smith Consulting Architects designed the 126,720-square-foot building at 14040 Danielson Drive while R.G. Petty Construction Co. crews are doing the building work. Both are San Diego firms.
Meanwhile, grading by McMillin on nine more pads spread across 65 acres is also under way in the South Poway Business Park, said Mike Binkle, president of McMillin Commercial.
Parkway Centre Two is nearing completion as well and the new tenant will be Mitchell Repair Information Co., a subsidiary of Snap-On Tools and the largest national publisher of auto repair manuals. It will be leasing about 65,000 of the approximately 120,000-square-foot building.
The publisher will join several other tenants at Parkway Business Centre, including APW/Electronic Solutions, an integrated enclosure system manufacturer, and Geico Direct Insurance Co.
Meanwhile, to the west off Scripps-Poway Parkway, Roel Construction Co. Inc. is currently installing fireproofing, mechanical, electrical and plumbing for the new Maintenance Warehouse headquarters. The 151,400-square-foot, four-story, steel office building sits on an 11.8-acre lot at 10641 Scripps Summit Court in the Scripps Northridge Corporate Center. Completion is set for June next year, said Jacquie Johnston, a Roel spokeswoman.
The Harrison Co. is providing construction management for the building, which was designed by Howard Sneed Architecture and Design of San Diego. Joseph Wong Design Associates of San Diego provided the architectural documents for the shell.
San Diego-based subcontractors on the project include JD@ Inc., International Iron, Otis Elevator, and Pacific Rim Mechanical. Other subcontractors working on the project include Vista-based Naton Engineering; Bannister Steel and Sunburst Electric, both of National City; J.L.Davidson Co. of Santee; and Poway-based Sherwood Mechanical Inc. and Western Fire Protection Inc.
Mexport Business Center
R.G. Petty crews have lifted concrete panel walls at the Mexport Business Center in Caliexico at the Calexico east commercial border crossing. The 320,000-square-foot distribution center is made up of four concrete tilt-up buildings. It was designed by Ware & Malcomb Architects of San Diego. Major local subcontractors include Pacific Coast Steel Inc. of San Diego, S.A.W. Construction and Superior Roofing, both of Escondido, said Karen E. Namy, a R.G. Petty spokeswoman.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected Ninteman Construction Co. and Edward J. Cass & Associates, both of San Diego, to provide design-build services for a child development center at Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County.
Selected on the basis of its technical proposal and relative design experience, the Ninteman-Cass team was the third-lowest bidder with an approximate project cost of $4.56 million, said Peter Vander Werff, manager of Ninteman’s military division.
The team will design and build a single-story, 24,000-square-foot, 300-person capacity child care center at the fort.
Meanwhile, Johnson & Jennings General Contracting of San Diego has started on three tenant improvement projects in Downtown.
The company’s crews are working at the law offices of Butz, Dunn, Desantis & Bingham in the 101 W. Broadway building. The project includes demolishing existing secretarial space and construction of new areas, as well as new carpet, paint and wall coverings.
Johnson & Jennings crews are working on the fifth floor corridor of the Wells Fargo Plaza building at 401 B Street as well. That work consists of removing the existing finishes and building an additional corridor area. The new finishes will include carpet, granite flooring, paint and wall coverings that will match the previously updated common areas.
The company has also started construction on 7,000-square-feet of offices for the La Jolla Group, a multimedia design firm, in the Wells Fargo Plaza as well, said Bonnie Kutch, a Johnson & Jennings spokeswoman.
The remodeling will feature an “industrial look” design with clear-coated fire doors, no floor coverings and extensive interior glass.
Bilbro Construction Co. of San Diego has finished up tenant improvements for Federal Express in the Bernardo Heights Corporate Center at 10815 Rancho Bernardo Road. The construction project included 13,655 square feet of offices, conference rooms and a reception area. Cynthia Ericson of Ericson & Associates of San Diego was the architect for the project.
Subcontractors on the job were San Marcos Mechanical of San Marcos, Dynaelectric of San Diego, Western Fire Protection of Poway, Re:SourceFloors of San Diego and General Coatings of San Diego.”
