New Account:

Fleishman-Hillard’s local office recently picked up the UCSD Connect public relations account.

According to a spokesman for Fleishman-Hillard, the groups signed a six-month contract in August, following a review. The bulk of work began in September.

An account review was completed in August, and Connect would not reveal the other agencies in the running, the spokesman said.

The contract’s financial details were also not disclosed.

Before Fleishman-Hillard, UCSD Connect worked for six months with the Gable Group, which is based Downtown.

For now, Fleishman-Hillard is working on general promotions and events leading up to Connect’s Innovative Product Awards in December.

Sound Bites:

Di Zinno-Thompson Solutions recently redid its Web site (www.dzt. com). The new site was created with the firm’s Internet partner, locally based 1011 Interactive. After being off of KSWB-TV only a few weeks, viewers’ protests have brought “Navy/Marine Corps News” back to the station’s schedule. The show will resume airing Saturday mornings at 5:30 a.m., starting Oct. 6. It has been airing on the station since 1985, when Channel 5/69 was still KTTY. (Tribune Broadcasting bought the station in 1996.) According to a station representative, the show was taken out to make room for “Making It,” a show about minority, small-business owners produced by Los Angeles sister station KTLA. LocalBusiness.com, which closed its Web site in San Diego and other cities last spring, has been bought by a Massachusetts-based sales firm. TrueAdvantage, Inc. in Westboro plans to launch a new site in the future.

A Score In The Marketing Game:

Another commercial of locally based Jack in the Box, Inc. was named a “best spot” by industry magazine Adweek.

“Play of the Day/Punt Return” featured football team the Los Angeles Carnivores facing off against the Boston Beans. A blimp makes the stop in the day’s play.

The commercial was designed by Secret Weapon Marketing out of Santa Monica.
