Mayoral Candidate to Leave AMN Chairman’s Job

Steve Francis, who announced he’s running for mayor of San Diego last month, said Feb. 22 that he will not stand for re-election as chairman of the board of AMN Healthcare Services Inc., the San Diego nurse staffing firm he and his wife Gayle founded in 1985.

Francis, 53, said he needs to devote all his time to running his campaign to defeat Mayor Jerry Sanders.

“After 23 years with AMN Healthcare, I have found another cause to which I am just as committed,” he said.

A new chairman will be appointed after the company’s shareholder meeting April 9, the company said.
