The Federal Communications Commission approved the transfer of Lockheed Martin’s Communication Industry Services division to Washington, D.C.-based NeuStar, Inc.
NeuStar is now the administrator of the North American Numbering Plan and Local Number Portability. As such, the company will administer all area codes in North America; provide area code relief, number pooling and other actions to help with the shrinking availability of telephone numbers; and manage the database for routing of telephone calls.
“We remain committed to working with the FCC, the North American Numbering Council, the telecommunications industry and the state regulatory agencies to ensure our valuable numbering resources are conserved and efficiently utilized,” said Jeff Ganek, CEO of NeuStar.
