Local Affordable Housing Plans Get Federal Funds

Eight affordable housing initiatives in San Diego County have received $3.6 million in grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco’s Affordable Housing Program.

The competitive grant program awards funding to affordable housing projects serving low- to moderate-income renters and buyers.

The grants are awarded in two rounds. In the first round, announced in June 2001, three San Diego County organizations were awarded a total of $1.8 million; Cantebria Senior Homes, Emporium Apartments, and Market Square Manor in San Diego.

The second round, announced this month, gave another $1.8 million to five local agencies and developers. Two grants were awarded to Community Housing of North County. The rest went to Community Interface Services, Urban Housing Corp., and BRIDGE Housing Corp.

The Federal Home Loan Bank awarded $38 million in Affordable Housing Program grants in both rounds for 2001-02. Since 1990, the bank has given out $236 million through the program in Nevada, California, Arizona and other states served by the bank.
