Radio Stations Enjoyed Growth in 9 Ad Categories in First Quarter

The San Diego Radio Broadcasters Association, a coalition of local radio stations that promotes the use of radio as a primary advertising medium, strongly objects to the headline in the May 21 issue, “Radio Broadcasters Suffering Slowdown in Auto Advertising.”

The facts are:

– Advertising in the automotive category on San Diego radio stations was up 15.2 percent for the first quarter of 2007 compared to the same period last year.

– The local radio industry enjoyed growth in nine of 10 advertising categories in the first quarter over last year.

– The “softening” mentioned in the article referred to the national perspective, not local.

The SDRBA has available factual, third-party, independent data that paints a very different picture than the one portrayed in the May 21 issue.
