Attorneys with the San Diego law firm of Gordon & Rees faced a different challenge recently when they traded in their tailored suits for muddy shorts and T-shirts.
The team got “down and dirty” in the annual Camp Pendleton Mud Run, a 10K , which equates to 6.2 miles , trek across rugged terrain and mud.
This is the seventh year of the run, and the second year Gordon & Rees have participated to support the armed forces at Camp Pendleton. The attorneys were among 3,500 mud run participants.
“The attorneys from Gordon & Rees enjoy a challenge, as we are faced with many mental challenges every day in the practice of law,” said Miles Scully, a member of the team. “However, the physical challenges awaiting us at the mud run would leave anyone feeling a little daunted.”
According to Scully, the team waded through various streams, leaped over logs and wallowed through sticky mud crossings. They had to run up “suicide hill” in slippery mud for more than a mile, then another hill of mud.
Before crossing the finish line, the team scaled walls, crawled in pipes and wiggled through a pool of mud under a 4-inch barbed wire barrier.
“By working as a team and encouraging each other, the Gordon & Rees attorneys crossed the finish line arm-and-arm with their teammates,” Scully said. “This year’s mud run was a lot of fun and an excellent opportunity to bring together two values that are important to our law firm , teamwork and community service.”
