Six New Attorneys Join Brobeck Phleger’s
Office in San Diego
The San Diego-based law firm of Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps recently increased its forces by acquiring a group of lawyers from Tuttle & Taylor of Los Angeles.
Twelve attorneys , 10 of whom were principals at Tuttle & Taylor , will join Luce Forward’s Los Angeles office, with several more expected to come on board in the coming weeks.
The new attorneys are: Timi A. Hallem, Douglas W. Beck, Michael H. Bierman, Louis E. Kempinsky, Marc L. Brown, Jeffrey D. Wexler, Laura J. Carroll, John A. Moe II, Edward A. Mendoza, Sam S. Oh, Marla J. Aspinwall and Katherine P. Ross.
Collectively, the attorneys offer extensive experience in a variety of legal areas, including real estate, business and intellectual property litigation, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, environmental, corporate and securities law.
With this acquisition, Luce Forward’s Los Angeles office will double in size from 12 to 24 attorneys. Given the recent opening of the firm’s West Los Angeles office, Luce Forward now has 34 attorneys in the area.

More Expansion: Another San Diego firm is expanding as well. Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP has added six new attorneys to its local office. Frank Ubell joined the firm’s intellectual property group as of counsel, and Drew Granston, Alma P. Levy and Richard Pagliery joined as associates. Todd Nielson joined the firm’s real estate group, and Lucinda Y. Quan joined the business and technology group.
Copyright News: San Diego-based Sandicast Inc., which manufactures hand-cast and painted animal sculptures, recently settled a copyright infringement case against Richard N. Wangerien of Elyria, Ohio, who was doing business as United Wholesale, and A & C; Plaster Crafts Inc. of Cleveland.
Sandicast filed the lawsuit May 7, 1999, in the U.S. District Court for the North District of Ohio against A & C; and Wangerien alleging infringement of copyrights.
“We aggressively pursue copyright infringers who copy our designs,” said Sandra Blue, Sandicast owner and artist. “It takes months for me to research and sculpt a new piece. Each sculpture is then hand cast and hand painted in our San Diego factory. For someone to come along and simply copy our hard work is unconscionable, besides being against the copyright laws.”
