Carol Lam said Jan. 16 she is resigning her position as U.S. attorney for the southern district of California, effective Feb. 15.
Some local news reports said Lam had come under pressure to resign, though a statement released by Lam made no mention of that fact.
“It has been both a great honor and a great privilege to have served the nation and the southern district of California as United States attorney for the past four and one-half years,” Lam said in the statement. “The dedication shown by the men and women of the U.S. attorney’s office can be seen every day in the important cases they prosecute, including cases relating to terrorism, immigration, narcotics, public corruption and fraud.”
Lam has been a Superior Court judge and spent 14 years as an assistant U.S. attorney.
