Kintera Cuts Loss

Kintera Inc., the San Diego maker of software that helps nonprofits manage fund-raising, reported a third quarter net loss of $1.7 million on revenue of $11.9 million. That compared to a net loss of $8.2 million on revenue of $10 million in the prior year’s third quarter.

For the nine months, Kintera reported a net loss of $12.7 million on revenue of $35.4 million, compared to a net loss of $26.4 million on revenue of $31.4 million for the like period of 2006.

CEO Richard LaBarbera said he was pleased by the company’s reaching a goal of breaking even when measured by another accounting yardstick called EBITDA, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and stock-based compensation expense. In addition, the company also excluded expenses related to restructuring cost caused by laying off more than 100 employees, or about a fourth of its staff in recent quarters.

Measured in that way, Kintera said it had an EBITDA profit of $47,000.

Traded under KNTA on Nasdaq, shares fell 3 cents in after-hours trading Nov. 7 to $1.75, and have ranged from $1.11 to $2.83 over the past 52 weeks.
