The Ivy Hotel raised $50,000 from its one-year anniversary event for CARE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting world poverty. Shannon Darke of CARE said, “It was a fantastic opportunity for us to partner with the Ivy. We are thankful for all of the Ivy’s fundraising efforts.” Nicki Marcellino, manager of Prudential California Realty, La Jolla, said that Maxine and Marti Gellens has attained the No. 1 ranking for sales production among agents with Prudential in the county for the first three quarters of 2008 The Wal-Mart Foundation has awarded San Diego State University a $100,000 grant to support student veterans and the Troops to College Program. The grant will support progam development, and provide resources to assist veterans with access to education, adjustment to civilian life and success in completing their degrees Parkinson’s Disease Association of San Diego held its annual Spirit of Life Award dinner on Oct. 26. The event raised $110,000 for research programs in neurology Team Sheraton Carlsbad, headed by Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa, raised $3,000 at the 12th annual Susan G. Komen San Diego Race for the Cure. This year’s race raised $1.4 million to help fund breast cancer programs for women in the area The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes was held Oct. 26 at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. The event raised $720,000 for diabetes research. Amylin Pharmaceuticals was the presenting sponsor with Sony Electronics as the platinum sponsor. The $130,000 raised benefits the organization’s literacy programs for at-risk children, youth and adults. Novelists Gregory Maguire and Brunonia Barry were guests of honor The San Diego Society for Human Resource Management presented Watkins Manufacturing a workplace excellence award in the large company category. The annual event honored companies that demonstrate HR practices that have contributed to superior employee satisfaction and company performance.
