Hunter Douglas Scales Back Amid Layoffs

Hunter Douglas Fabrication, a unit of Dutch-owned Hunter Douglas, said it is halting production of blinds and shades at its Poway plant, and cutting 157 jobs.

The work is being gradually transferred to the company’s new West Sacramento plant, which will eventually hold some 400 employees, a spokeswoman said Oct. 10.

After the transfer is completed in March, the Poway facility will remain open and staffed with support personnel including sales, customer service, finance and customer repair, numbering more than 100 employees, the company said.

Laid off employees, who were notified in July, were offered the chance to transfer to the new plant or severance. Current employment at the facility that has been operating for about 35 years is about 275 people.
