Hilton Gaslamp Sold for $85 Million

The Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel on Fifth Avenue across from the San Diego Convention Center fetched $85 million in a sale announced Jan. 7.

Publicly traded Bethesda, Md.-based LaSalle Hotel Properties was the buyer.

S.D. Malkin Properties, which developed, owned and managed the 282-room hotel as part of the Bridgeworks mixed-use property, will retain ownership of the 23,000-square-foot retail component, which is anchored by Lou & Mickey’s Restaurant. The development opened in 2000.

LaSalle owns interests in 20 hotels nationwide, including the Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego.

S.D. Malkin has offices in San Diego, Greenwich, Conn., and London. The firm is a finalist in a proposed beachfront resort hotel in Oceanside and is considering developing a boutique hotel on property it owns on Fifth Avenue and E Street in Downtown, said Jeremy Cohen, senior vice president and director of the firm’s U.S. development.
