Helicopters Return from Tsunami Relief Effort

Two San Diego-based helicopter squadrons which took part in the Navy’s tsunami relief effort arrived at Naval Air Station North Island on March 1.

They arrived with the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group. The Lincoln was scheduled to make a brief stop here before continuing to its homeport of Everett, Wash.

The aircraft from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 47 and Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 2 transported 3,043 passengers during the relief effort, and carried 5.7 million pounds of supplies between Jan. 1 and Feb. 4.
