Loved ones are often concerned about sending a family member to an assisted-living community.
One of the biggest issues , health services , is targeted by Marriott’s Brighton Gardens in Carmel Valley to reassure family members the living environment adequately accommodates older adults.
Brighton Gardens is an assisted-living community designed for seniors who need some type of assistance with daily activities, such as bathing and dressing.
Its focus is one of wellness and of keeping residents as independent as possible by providing assistance based on each individual’s needs.
Ximed Medical Group, a 275-doctor independent practice association of medical professionals, recently teamed with Brighton Gardens to provide health care services, physician wellness visits and health education to senior residents of the assisted-living community. The Ximed Medical Center is located on the campus of Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.
According to James Bishop, CEO of Ximed, 77 physicians in the group will be available to provide health care services to the residents of Brighton Gardens, and 22 of those physicians expressed interest in making house calls to its residents.
“The community’s approach of emphasizing ‘wellness’ as well as keeping its residents as independent as possible through individualized programs is an approach that we feel provides seniors with a wonderful atmosphere for living life to its fullest,” Bishop said.
In addition, Ximed established a prevention speaker’s bureau comprised of physicians, who will speak on various topics related to health concerns and issues facing older adults and their families. Some of the topics include urology, ophthalmology, rheumatology, podiatry and dementia related issues.
All free monthly speaking engagements are open to the public.
Kathryn Nicol, director of community relations for Brighton Gardens, said the residents’ insurance programs would cover the physician services.
Brighton Gardens is comprised of 90 assisted living suites, 45 beds of skilled nursing in its health care center, and 25 beds in its secured special care center. Currently, there are approximately 130 residents living in the community.
“It serves as an important resource for our residents,” Nicol said. “(Ximed) is a reliable renowned medical group which will provide the most valuable services to our residents.”
