San Diego County Treasurer and Tax Collector Dan McAllister reminds property owners that the first installment of their 2008-09 taxes is due Nov. 1 and becomes delinquent if not paid by Dec. 10.
In September, McAllister’s department mailed out 975,679 tax bills to property owners. He expects to collect more than $4.57 billion for the full year.
McAllister says the most common excuse for not paying the bill is the owner didn’t get the bill in the mail. His response: “They still need to pay the bill.”
Delinquent taxpayers are charged a 10 percent penalty, plus a $10 fee.
