Growing Mintz Levin Sees ‘Unbelievable Opportunity’ in San Diego

Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC expanded yet again. Former Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney attorneys Daniel T. Pascucci and Andrew D. Skale will join Mintz Levin as members April 6.

Also joining from Buchanan are associates Nathan Hamler and Benjamin Wagner.

The Boston-based law firm has tripled its San Diego office in size since opening nearly 10 months ago. Now with 22 attorneys, Mintz Levin managing member Craig Hunsaker said he anticipates further growth.

“The market is ready for this opportunity,” said Hunsaker. “The only reason we haven’t grown more quickly is because we are being very selective in who we add, but there is an unbelievable opportunity for Mintz Levin in San Diego and we are finding that out really on a weekly basis.”

He said that neither the group of attorneys that started the office nor Mintz Levin wanted the firm opened in San Diego to grow slowly.

“We want to do something significant,” he said. “The growth has certainly been aggressive but it hasn’t exceeded our expectations.”

Mintz Levin’s San Diego office opened in June 2006 with a corporate licensing, intellectual property and employment law practice. It has since expanded into real estate, insolvency and now commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation.

Pascucci’s practice focuses on complex business litigation, intellectual property litigation, class action defense, unfair competition and telecommunications related cases.

Skale’s practice focuses on patent and trademark prosecution on behalf of companies and inventors in the fields of electronics, the Internet, business methods, software and mechanical arts. He also specializes in complex business litigation, including unfair business practices, class action defense and intellectual property cases.

The San Diego office welcomed real estate attorney Scott Biel from the Del Mar Heights office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP last month.

His practice focuses on representation of owners, developers, tenants and lenders in all aspects of real estate transactions with an emphasis on financing, development and leasing of office, research and manufacturing facilities for corporate users in the biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical and telecommunications industries.

Mintz Levin also announced the addition of lawyers in its Palo Alto office.
