Grant Subsidizes Law Week Events

San Diego Superior Court has been awarded a $6,000 grant by the Foundation of the State Bar of California to help fund Law Week 2005, scheduled for May 1-7, a national and local event.

The theme of Law Week this year is “The American Jury: We the People in Action,” promoting the importance of jury duty.

Schools countywide will be invited to participate in the event’s poster and essay contests. Some students also will have the opportunity to visit the courts, mingle with court personnel, attorneys and other legal professionals, and participate in mock trials.

“We are pleased to support the Superior Court’s efforts to demystify the court system, the legal profession, and the rule of law for students and adults throughout San Diego County,” said Leslie Hatamiya, the foundation’s executive director.
