Governor Taps Golding for State Panel

Former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding has been appointed to the California Ocean Protection Council by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Since 2001, she has served as president and chief executive officer for the Golding Group Inc. Prior to that, Golding served as mayor from 1992 to 2000, and on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors from 1984 to 1992.

The position, which doesn’t require Senate confirmation, pays $100 per diem. A Republican, Golding, 61, resides in San Diego.

In other appointments by the governor announced June 12, San Diego County Sheriff William Kolender, 72, has been appointed to the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission.

Kolender, who has served on the commission since 2005, has been sheriff since 1995, and currently is in his fourth term. He is president of the California State Sheriffs Association.

The position, which doesn’t require Senate confirmation, pays no salary. A San Diego resident, Kolender is a Republican.

Andrew Poat, 47, of San Diego, has been appointed to the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission, where he has served since 2005.

Poat has served as vice president of public policy for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. since 2006. Prior to that, he was director of government relations for the city of San Diego from 2001 to 2006. He previously served as chief deputy director of the California Department of Transportation and deputy cabinet secretary to Gov. Pete Wilson.

The position, which doesn’t require Senate confirmation, pays no salary. Poat is a Republican.
