Urchin Software Corp., a Web analytics company that began life as a Web development house in a small room in Solana Beach, announced Monday that it has agreed to be acquired by Google Inc.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. But the San Jose Mercury News, citing unnamed sources, placed the value of the deal at about $30 million.
Urchin offers an assortment of tools for measuring people’s interactions with Web sites. It claims 20 percent of the Fortune 500 companies as part of its user base.
Google, headquartered in Mountain View, said it plans to make Urchin’s tools available to Web site owners and marketers, and that the sale could close by the end of April.
Paul Muret and Scott Crosby founded the San Diego company in 1995. They were later joined by executives Brett Crosby Scott’s brother and Jack Ancone.
The company’s offices are in Downtown’s Little Italy neighborhood.
