Openings, groundbreakings and topping-offs abound
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders led a group of well-wishers who turned out Sept. 28 to commemorate the reopening of the historic Sail Ho Golf Club at Liberty Station in Point Loma.
Built in 1925 for recruits at the then-Naval Training Center, the course has had a $3.3 million makeover, overseen by Temecula’s CSC Golf Management, including landscaping designed to improve the play from each of the course’s nine holes.
It officially was opened to the public Sept. 30.
The Sycamore Medical Center , billed as North County’s newest medical office center , broke ground Oct. 2.
The $5 million Class A building, located just south of Highway 78 at Sycamore Avenue and Hibiscus Street in Vista, will consist of 13,500 square feet of space.
Rusty Williams, principal, and Larry Strickland, founding principal and chief executive officer of Lee & Associates’ Carlsbad office, will spearhead leasing efforts on behalf of the developer, Marker Co. Inc. of Solana Beach.
EastLake Village, a new commercial neighborhood covering 5 acres in Chula Vista, recently broke ground.
A partnership of Urban + West and the San Diego Smart Growth Fund, the $23 million, 67,000-square-foot project consists of 10 office buildings designed for small businesses.
Meanwhile, a topping-out celebration was held Sept. 28 for a Douglas Wilson Cos.’ residential project, the 380-foot-tall, $155 million Mark. At 33 stories, it is the highest building in downtown’s East Village.

Going Up:
Construction is under way for UC San Diego’s graduate student housing project.
Tempe, Ariz.-based Sundt Construction Inc. expects to complete the 800-bed, $66 million complex by April.
The east campus project consists of four four-story buildings and a small retail area, study lounges, meeting rooms and administrative offices.

Moving In:
Grubb & Ellis/BRE Commercial recently moved its Carlsbad/North County office one mile east to the new Kelly Corporate Center IV at 1000 Aviara Parkway in Carlsbad.
The new offices include more than 14,000 square feet, needed to keep up with the company’s growth. According to Grubb & Ellis, it has morphed to more than 170 professionals, and increased market coverage from three to five offices throughout Southern California , including its headquarters in University Towne Center, Carlsbad, downtown, Otay Mesa and Temecula.

Onward And Upward:
Gillespie Moody Patterson Inc., a San Diego-based landscape architecture and planning firm, has opened its doors in Phoenix to serve its central Arizona home, commercial and hospitality clients.
Past projects include the landscape architecture design for Santaluz, a 3,800-acre master-planned community in San Diego.

Happy Birthday:
Ninyo & Moore celebrated 20 years in business with an open house at its corporate headquarters in San Diego recently.
The company was established Sept. 1, 1986, to provide geo-technical, environmental, materials testing and special inspection testing services to the public and private sectors.
Projects have included state Route 125, Petco Park, Del Mar Fairgrounds improvements and Lindbergh Field upgrades.
