A New Beginning:

San Diego’s Thomas Jefferson School of Law held its fall commencement Dec. 17 at the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park.

The commencement speaker was Los Angeles criminal defense and civil rights attorney Thomas Mesereau, known for defending Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson and Robert Blake.

Mesereau told the 77 students who received law degrees that no matter what legal specialty they choose, they can make a difference in the world by giving time to those in need. He is well known for his pro-bono legal work and community support in Los Angeles.

Employing Her Literary Skills:

Thomas Jefferson School of Law professor Susan Bisom-Rapp plans to release a new book on international and comparative employment law this month.

The book, which she co-wrote, covers the national workplace laws of nine countries and examines labor and employment law regulations by the International Labor Organization and those under the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, the European Union and Corporate Codes of Conduct.

In addition, the text will be used for a new course at Thomas Jefferson.

Bisom-Rapp said interest in transnational aspects of workplace law has grown as labor and employment lawyers increasingly encounter issues implicating the laws of other countries.
