A San Diego man who sold thousands of altered and misbranded medical devices claiming to treat an array of illnesses ranging from AIDS to ulcers was found guilty by a federal jury Feb. 17.
A U.S. District Court jury in San Diego found James Folsom, 68, guilty on 26 felony counts related to the sale of the device, sold under the names NatureTronics, AstroPulse, BioSolutions, Energy Wellness and Global Wellness.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego, the device was labeled “for investigational purposes” deceiving customers into believing Folsom had received FDA exemption to market the device.
According to evidence presented at the trial, Folsom, who sometimes used the name Jim Anderson, conspired with others to ship the altered and misbranded biofrequency devices between 1997 and 2008.
The devices came with settings for illnesses such as AIDS, diabetes, stroke, ulcers and worms. Users were instructed to attach themselves to the machine and turn a dial to the appropriate setting to begin treatment.
Folsom sold more than 9,000 of the devices for more than $8 million, according to trial testimony.
He faces 145 years in prison if a jury levies the maximum sentence on all 26 counts.
