Gafcon, Inc., a San Diego-based construction management company, has landed a mega-contract , managing a team of international firms to build a $28 billion city on an island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Tamouh Investments recently retained the firm to perform project oversight for the development on the island of Al Reem, to be dubbed the “Pearl of the Emirates.”
The 2,000-acre island, which is vacant, is slated for residential, entertainment and commercial development and is planned to “rival the city of Dubai in luxury and glamour,” according to a company spokeswoman.
The developer chose the firm to “act as a guide in modeling the project after San Diego’s best practices for growth and transportation,” she said.
Included on the team is Carrier Johnson, a San Diego-based architectural firm.
