Eldorado Stone Claims Victory in Trade Secret Case

A San Marcos company that manufactures artificial stone veneer, Eldorado Stone LLC, said April 12 that it is the victor in a $21 million trade secret case.

Eldorado Stone first filed suit against Renaissance Stone Inc., a company founded by a former Eldorado employee, in 2004.

This month, a San Diego jury sided with Eldorado following a two-and-a-half-week trial. The jury found that Renaissance “misappropriated Eldorado’s trade secrets, infringed on Eldorado Stone trademarks, infringed on Eldorado Stone’s copyrights, and interfered in the economic relationships between Eldorado and its customers,” Eldorado said.

Renaissance Stone officials could not be reached for comment.

Eldorado Stone is a subsidiary of Headwaters Inc., a Utah-based company specializing in building materials as well as products for the coal power industry. Headwaters trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol HW.
