Dr. Toy Hands Out Kudos for Kids’ Game

This is sort of believable.

Together, two brothers started their own children’s game company four years ago. Only one of the brothers has children, although the other is expecting. The one with the kids designs the games. The other funds the company.

Is that brotherly love, or what?

Regardless of the financial arrangements, the Lolo Co. of Mira Mesa is receiving all kinds of recognition for the firm’s newest game, Don’t Make Me Laugh Jr.

The latest award is from Dr. Toy, also known as Dr. Stevanne Auerbach, director of the Institute for Child Resources in San Francisco.

Auerbach, as one of the nation’s leading professional experts on children’s products, writes a weekly column distributed by King Features Syndicate to more than 1,500 newspapers in North America.

In an upcoming column, Auerbach will list the game as one of Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Games and 100 Best Children’s Products for 2000.

Don’t Make Me Laugh Jr. is based on role-playing and rewards the creativity of the participants, said company president Charlie Paul. The game is marketed to children ages 5 to adult and is priced at $21.95 on the company’s Web site (lolofun.com). It is also sold on (Amazon.com), and (eToys.com), and at Wizards of the Coast and Target.

So far, more than 2,500 copies of the game have been sold since it debuted in July.

Paul said a number of psychologists were consulted during the game’s development.

“It seems to bridge a gap,” he said. “It seems to draw out kids who are kind of quiet and it seems to bring kids who are troublesome back in line.”
