Don’t Get Burned By Charger Fever, BBB Cautions

The San Diego Better Business Bureau has issued a consumer alert to Chargers football fans who want to go to Massachusetts for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

In two words, watch out.

When booking a sports travel package, the bureau encourages people to check the reliability of the tour operator. As San Diego’s largest countywide business organization, the BBB has free reliability reports on more than 100,000 local companies.

Other tips from the BBB include:

– Make sure the trip arranged by the travel agency includes tickets to the game.

– Before you pay your money, you should receive complete details in writing about the trip, including total price, components of the package and cancellation and change penalties.

– Consider paying by credit card, since credit card customers have the right to dispute charges for services not rendered.

– Be extremely skeptical about phone solicitations or surprise announcements from strangers who say you’ve won a vacation to see Sunday’s game in Massachusetts.

Sheryl Bilbrey, president of the local BBB, said the organization does not want to see Charger fans scammed by unscrupulous vendors.
