San Diegans who want to sound off about the new 858 area code can voice their opinion by logging on to the city of San Diego’s Web site.
The page, located at (www.ci.san-diego.ca.us), allows users to answer six questions about the area code concerning such issues as its boundaries, prior notice, and whether the new area code is costing the respondent more money.
The poll also asks if the area should get another new area code. This summer, the county is scheduled to receive another area code, 935, for the southern portion of the city and East County.
San Diego Mayor Susan Golding said in 1998, when the 858 area code was proposed, she and the rest of the City Council voted to recommend that the new area codes be given to new telephone users, instead of switching them to current users.
