The renovation of Prospect Square Mall in La Jolla is nearing completion.
The $2.4 million refurbishment of the 28,860-square-foot, upscale retail center, located at 1025 Prospect St. in downtown La Jolla, began in September and will be finished next month, according to officials. The project is a joint venture between Pacific Equity Properties, Inc., a Los Angeles firm, and Ramsey Real Estate of San Diego.
The center’s $2.4 million makeover will draw shoppers in through the newly installed exterior escalator centered with an extensive floral landscape. The entryway will lead to an ocean view with outdoor terraces.
The transformation of the center is not only a visual one, but includes new tenants: Ultra Optique, an optometrist, La Jolla Watch & Diamond, Sally Huss Art Gallery, Coca Ibiza Resort Wear, Continental Insurance Brokers, Inc., Zucotta Systems, Inc., Dillingham Software Engineering, Sowers & Baccala, Pinnacle Fund Management and Jack Bechta & Associates.
Zao Sushi and one other undetermined restaurant will accompany these specialty shops in filling the 18 total units, said Keeton Construction Co. Principal-in-Charge Bruce Keeton.
The newly remodeled shopping center will not only create a pleasant shopping environment, but will eliminate some of the parking problems for both customers and employees. The parking garage is brightly lit and painted, a far cry from the typical concrete garage.
The reconstruction is being headed by Keeton with Ed Monroe as project manager and Craig Connelly as on-site superintendent. Other members of the project team include Gordon Kovtun, senior project manager for Gafcon, and Michael Kovac, project architect. Also participating in the center’s face-lift are Horowitz Taylor Engineering as structural engineer, and Grimes Surveying & Mapping, Inc. as the civil engineer.
