Cricket Rolls Out Mobile Music Service

San Diego-based Leap Wireless announced Feb. 10 a new music service offered to Cricket Communications customers. Cricket’s Mobile Music service operates similar to Apple’s iTunes, the largest music retailer.

The service allows customers to download songs directly to their wireless devices or their personal computers. Songs downloaded directly to 3G phones cost $1.99. Computer downloads are 99 cents. And customers can buy two copies of each song , one for their computer and one for their phone , for $2.25 per song. Customers can also receive three download credits for a $5 monthly subscription.

The songs are managed through Cricket’s Music Manager software available online at www.mycricket.com.

To promote the service, Cricket is loaning out free copies of Grammy-nominated artist Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s hit single, “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” The song will be available for use for two weeks.

Customers can also enter an online contest for other prizes.

Mobile Music requires a music-capable Cricket 3G handset, such as a Motorola Rokr, Krzr, Slvr or Rzr2, or Samsung JetSet, r610 or r500.

Cricket offers a flat-rate unlimited service with no long-term contracts required.
