Cricket Communications Inc., a San Diego-based flat rate cell phone company, said it signed a multiyear marketing deal with Our Stories Films, a film studio unit owned by Black Entertainment Television founder Robert L. Johnson.
Under the agreement, products of Cricket, a unit of Leap Wireless International Inc., will be integrated into movies and events produced by Our Stories Films, along with exclusive promotions designed for Cricket customers. The alliance is expected to leverage each brand’s core target audience of urban customers, the companies said in a statement released Dec. 4.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
Cricket’s customers, who pay for the wireless service in advance, are usually younger and unable to qualify to purchase long-term cell phone contracts from other carriers.
Our Stories Films was created in 2006 by Johnson in partnership with Bob and Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Co., and makes comedies for African American and urban audiences. The studio’s first release in July was “Who’s Your Caddy?”
