A Sacramento Superior Court judge has stopped a one-day strike that University of California nurses had planned to stage July 21.
Judge Loren McMaster on July 20 issued a temporary restraining order to prevent members of the California Nurses Association, which represents the 9,000 UC nurses, from striking.
The union declared the strike this month after it failed to reach a contract agreement with the university system.
The two parties have been unable to agree on issues including pensions, wages and staffing levels.
The UC system said the strike was illegal and sought the help of the state Public Employment Relations Board.
The board on July 19 filed a complaint in Sacramento Superior Court seeking a temporary restraining order.
The restraining order stopped the strike until Aug. 11, when a hearing will review contract talks and determine if the strike was legal, according to published reports.
McMaster did not rule on the legality of the strike.
