Court Officer, Commissioners Named

Michael M. Roddy has been named executive officer of the San Diego Superior Court following a nationwide search.

Currently the director for the Administrative Office of the Courts’ Northern/Central region, Roddy will leave his Sacramento office and join the court on Jan. 17.

He spent 12 years working throughout the San Diego court system in a number of managerial positions, leaving in 1994 to become executive officer of the Superior Court in Sacramento County.

Roddy holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA.

He replaces Stephen V. Love, who left the court in September.

In other appointments, Peter S. Doft, Virginia Johnson and Edlene McKenzie have been appointed to serve as court commissioners.

Doft began his legal career in 1979 with Defenders, Inc., where he managed cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Moving into civil work in 1985, Doft was in private practice, specializing in estate planning, as well as business transactions and litigation.

A graduate of New York University, he graduated first in his class from New England School of Law in 1979.

Johnson clerked with the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. A graduate of Tulane University Law School, she has experience in both civil and family law, and most recently was in private practice with the law firm of Fischbeck and Oberndorfer in La Mesa.

McKenzie’s experience is in juvenile dependency and family law, with a focus on representation of children. She served as a judge pro tem for the Juvenile Court for San Diego Superior Court, and since 1995, served on the Minor’s Counsel Panel for San Diego Family Court.

A graduate of UCLA, McKenzie earned her law degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.

Doft and Johnson will handle cases in Superior Court’s Central Division, while McKenzie will hear cases in the court’s North County division.
