“See death-defying feats of shopping strategy Thrill to real-life details of consumers taking on menacing corporations Learn the devastating secrets of consumer karate!”
No, this isn’t a pitch for a new action flick. It’s the promo for “Secrets From the World’s Greatest Consumer,” a new book by that droll dude Michael Shames, the executive director of the Utility Consumers’ Action Network, a San Diego-based consumer watchdog.
On Feb. 14 Valentine’s Day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Shames will be signing copies of his new book at UCAN headquarters, 3100 Fifth Ave. The book is free to members. He’s also selling the tomes to new sign-ups for $40.
What do you get?
“Hundreds of insider tips, tactics and strategies from America’s foremost consumer advocate!” he promises. Among the topics are banking, credit cards, insurance, buying a car, purchasing a home, traveling in style for less, eating better, technology and computer know-how, telephones and an illustrated cover of Shames himself dressed as Indiana Jones!
