T.B. Penick & Sons, Inc., a general contracting firm, has reached the midway mark on the construction of the new U.S. Border Patrol facility in Murrieta. The project is being built for the General Services Administration on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security, Customs & Border Protection and U.S. Border Patrol. The station, a single-story, 31,000-square-foot building, will provide a general office, detention area, and agent and administrative space. It is scheduled for completion this fall.

Smith Consulting Architects announced the completion of tenant improvement construction for the 26,304-square-foot research-and-development/industrial facility for Radyne Comstream, a satellite and cable TV systems business, in the Trade Center at 7330 Trade St. in Miramar. The scope of work for Smith Consulting entailed design for the remodel of existing offices, design of new research-and-development labs, as well as the design of a new electrical parts assembly facility.

Gafcon, Inc., a San Diego-based construction management and consulting firm, recently celebrated the groundbreaking for BWA Financial LLC’s Klawiter Executive Plaza at 1951 San Elijo Road in Encinitas. The project will include construction of a 14,739-square-foot commercial office building and 31,340 square feet of below-grade parking.

Bilbro Construction Co. was awarded a contract to complete improvements at Beta Winchester’s Summit at Silverhawk, at 38564 Sky Canyon Drive in Murrieta. The work will encompass 18,000 square feet, including six complete “spec” office build-outs on the first floor and an executive suite with 21 private offices on the second floor.

Johnson & Jennings General Contracting has begun tenant improvement remodeling for the 3,702-square-foot branch office of San Diego National Bank in Suite 104 of the Pacific Center I Building, at 1455 Frazee Road in Mission Valley. Construction is scheduled for completion in May.

Benchmark Landscape, Inc., a professional landscape installment service provider, completed work at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido. The project also involved the construction of a $15 million, 48,000-square-foot, two-story structural building, which included lab facilities.

Barnhart, Inc., a San Diego-based contractor, was awarded a construction management contract to oversee construction on the Chino Hills government center and community park.
