Swinerton Builders, a San Diego-based leading general contractor, announced that it topped out (or put the uppermost steel beam in place) on the Tower 23 boutique hotel project in Mission Beach. Located on The Strand in Mission Beach, and named after the nearby lifeguard tower, the 70,000-square-foot, three-story, wood-framed hotel will include 44 guest rooms, a steakhouse and an outdoor patio for dining. Hotel features will include wood ceilings in the dining area, stone and wood flooring and retractable glass walls opening to the outdoor patio.

Peterbuilt Corp. has construction under way for Changing Options Inc., a health services provider, at 500 Third Ave. in Ramona. Peterbuilt will be providing a ground-up addition to the existing facility and completing the site work and grading.

Stonefield Development commenced the final phases of exterior building activity at homes in the Whispering Ridge neighborhood at Scripps Ranch this month. The 81 homes were destroyed by the county’s wildfires in October 2003. Rebuilding of the homes has been delayed by rain and unavoidable delays in the shipment of building materials. Stonefield expects to remain on track for families to begin moving into their new homes in early March.

Wermers Corp. completed the foundation and underground work and has begun framing at Towngate Apartments, a 394-unit apartment project at the corner of Eucalyptus and Day Street in Moreno Valley. Towngate will consist of 12 buildings, including one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and a clubhouse.

Corky McMillin Cos. will begin construction next month on Montevalle Park, a 28-acre city park at Rolling Hills Ranch. The park is in the eastern part of Chula Vista and will have three multipurpose fields, three basketball courts, two tennis courts, an off-leash dog area, skate area, picnic area, walking trail and a 20,000-square-foot community center.
