Collaborators Write ‘Managing Smart’

Two doctors with MBA degrees and a business graduate are hopeful they’ve filled a market niche by writing a comprehensive book on “Managing Smart.”

Written by San Diego-based authors Dr. Lynne Milgram, Dr. Alan Spector and Matt Treger, “Managing Smart” provides 325 tips on how to be a manager, Spector said.

“We wanted to cover everything,” Spector said. “There is a whole market out there of people (who run businesses on the Internet) without human resources departments. This would be a good starting point.”

Spector, a gynecologist with two offices in San Diego, and Milgram, medical director of Sharp Community Medical Group, and Treger, a recent business graduate, completed an MBA program at SDSU. A mutual friend convinced the friends to translate their acquired knowledge into a book.

“We spent many weekends and nights together,” said Spector, an M.D. and Ph.D.

Spector said business school has had a positive influence on the way he treats his own employees now.

“I hope I treat them better,” he said.

Spector said he’s learned the importance of giving praise and empowering his employees.

“Managing Smart” is available on the Internet at Amazon.com and is priced at $22.46.
