City Recognizes Convention Center for Recycling Efforts
The San Diego Convention Center Corp. received an honorable mention in the city’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards Program.
The Convention Center will receive its award April 24 at San Diego Earth Day’s Very Important Planet reception.
The awards honor San Diego businesses and organizations that had innovative and successful waste reduction, recycling and recycled product procurement programs in 2001, said Gayle Falkenthal, a spokeswoman for the center.
Recycling programs in place at the concourse, Civic Theatre and Convention Center reduce waste for several materials, including paper, aluminum, glass and cardboard. All employees and clients are briefed on the importance of these programs, Falkenthal said.
Carol Wallace, president and chief executive officer of the Convention Center Corp., said these programs are incredibly important due to the volume of visitors at these facilities.
“We’ve shown a commitment to preserving our natural resources in all three of our facilities. Recycling and conservation have been a priority, especially since doubling the size of the Convention Center,” Wallace said.
